Justice Talks: Dire Tladi, Professor of Law

Elise Carreau News and Events

Dire Tladi, Professor of Law at Pretoria University addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing international criminal justice: head of state immunity under international law. Tladi discusses the current state of affairs regarding head of state immunity, its importance to the future of the International Criminal Court, the possible request by the African Union, via the General Assembly, of a advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice, and the importance of ensuring that the debate over head of state immunity is productive and respectful rather than binary and dichotomous.

Tladi spoke to the Wayamo Foundation’s Deputy Director Mark Kersten, at an International Symposium hosted by Wayamo on the theme “South Africa and International Criminal Justice – Charting the Way Forward”. The symposium was held in Cape Town, South Africa, on 19 August 2018.
