Bettina Ambach, Director of the Wayamo Foundation, travelled to Khartoum from 23 to 29 June to meet with local actors working in the field of justice and accountability in Sudan.
Training session for Nigeria’s Serious Crimes Response Team
On 25 May 2021 the Wayamo Foundation hosted a one day training workshop for Nigeria’s Serious Crimes Response Team, a highly specialised unit of military investigators and prosecutors, who would be specifically trained to investigate and prosecute alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, both of which potentially fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Specialist Media Engagement in Abuja: Networking for Justice and Accountability
On 21 May 2021, Wayamo hosted its third media engagement for Nigerian journalists who work on issues pertaining to international criminal justice and accountability. The objective of these meetings is to strengthen reporting skills and build knowledge on critical justice-related issues affecting the region, ranging from the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Nigeria to security challenges and the domestic prosecution of alleged Boko Haram suspects.

On 17 May 2021, the Wayamo Foundation held a workshop on the creation of an electronic case-file database and the usage of digital evidence in international criminal investigations within the Complex Casework Group (CCG), a specialised unit coming under the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Africa Group for Justice and Accountability meets to discuss recent and future engagements
The Africa Group for Justice and Accountability (AGJA) and its Secretariat, the Wayamo Foundation, held their second online Zoom meeting to discuss important developments, and brainstorm about ways forward in light of current circumstances.
Justice in West Africa: The quest for justice in the Gambia
The Wayamo Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Rule of Law Programme for Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa have launched an online resource platform on the fight against impunity in West Africa called “Justice in West Africa”. As part of this project, experts from West Africa were interviewed on debates relating to current and past efforts in the prosecution of international crimes in the region. The quest for justice: Survivor and activist who testified before the Truth Commission in The Gambia Toufah Jallow is a victim of sexual violence at the hands of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh. Jallow talks about her work as a justice activist, the role of civil society and the work of the Truth Commission in The Gambia (TRRC) where she testified. La Fondation Wayamo et le Programme pour la Promotion de l’Etat de droit de la Fondation Konrad Adenauer ont lancé une plateforme de ressources en ligne sur la lutte contre l’impunité en Afrique de l’Ouest intitulée « Justice en Afrique de l’Ouest pour les crimes internationaux ».
