On 12 June 2026 Wayamo Foundation Director Bettina Ambach paid a courtesy visit to Chief Justice Martha Koome in Nairobi, Kenya to discuss how Kenyan courts can play a greater role in addressing international and transnational organised crimes through domestic legal frameworks.

The meeting focused on opportunities presented by Kenya’s International Crimes Act and the broader goal of strengthening national capacity to investigate and prosecute serious international offenses.

“We have always valued our partners in the Kenyan judiciary and the great efforts they continue to undertake to expand their capacity to address complex international crimes,” said Ambach following the meeting.

Since 2012, the Wayamo Foundation has worked with the Kenyan Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to build expertise in international criminal justice. Through training, judicial dialogues and regional partnerships, the organisation has supported efforts to strengthen accountability mechanisms.

Wayamo’s work is guided by the principle of complementarity, which places primary responsibility for prosecuting international crimes on national jurisdictions. Wayamo advances this goal by promoting inter-agency cooperation, regional collaboration, peer-to-peer exchanges and expanding legal networks dedicated to combating impunity.

We thank our Kenyan partners for the commitment they have shown to international criminal justice in the region, and look forward to further strengthening our cooperation in the future.
