Somaia began posting on TikTok in 2024, talking to people in Darfur and Sudan about ending gender-based violence in Zaghawa, one of the languages of Darfur.
She often translated legal texts and international conventions into the Zaghawa language, and as her audience grew, into Arabic as well. Wayamo workshops and materials inspired her to also explain regional and international laws and accountability systems to promote the protection of civilians during the war.
She has produced hundreds of videos and connected with people across Darfur, Sudan, and the region. 600,000+ likes and 60,000+ followers later, she continues to educate and inspire.
