Taking place from 27 – 28 March 2017 in Pretoria, South Africa, the South African-German Justice Dialogue brought together South African, German and international experts in the areas of international criminal law and human rights, as well as 20 -25 participants, including diplomats, civil society representatives and academics. The event has been organised by the Wayamo Foundation in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office.
The Africa Group for Justice and Accountability (AGJA) and the Wayamo Foundation have been engaged in The Gambia since July 2017, when they were requested to make recommendations to the Minister of Justice, Abubacarr Tambadou, on the proposed Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.
At a crucial point in time, when South Africa’s longstanding commitment to the International Criminal Court (ICC) hangs in the balance, and many countries across Africa and other parts of the world are looking on with real interest at the direction it will take, the Africa Group for Justice and Accountability (AGJA) and the Wayamo Foundation held a one-day public symposium in Cape Town on the issue. The event was made possible thanks to the combined generosity of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the German Federal Foreign Office, the European Union, and the Government of Canada.
Following on from six previous workshops on “Strengthening Justice and Accountability in Nigeria” held over the course of 2017 and 2018, the Wayamo Foundation and the International Nuremberg Principles Academy will organise a training workshop for civil and military investigators, prosecutors and legal practitioners in Abuja from 24-26 June 2019.
